Marlon: Full Circle

Healthcare Professional

Marlon has a bachelor's degree in psychology and master's degree in management. He has worked in healthcare for over 20 years. His work experience is in health disparities, inequities, and serving the limited English proficient (LEP) population. He also has expertise, as a mental health professional, in Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS) and family crisis Interventions and conflict resolution. Mr. Duarte’s early career focus was working with children and adolescents with learning disabilities, severe emotional disorders (SED) undergoing adoption and foster placement. Marlon has been a bilingual behaviorist and mentor at UCLA - TIES for Families. He has also been a supervisor and trainer for the Institute for Applied Behavior Analysis, working in Intensive Support Services. He is a CHI Spanish certified healthcare interpreter™. Currently, he is proud to be the Director of Language and Hospitality Services at UCLA Health.

Cinematographer/Digital Media

In 2001, Marlon Duarte founded Psyched-Up Creative Media, a Los Angeles-based digital media production company. As the owner and founder, Marlon’s passion for producing short films, multi-media/training presentations and web development projects has led him to study cinematography at UCLA Extension. By day, Marlon works for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles as the manager for Diversity Services department. On his free time, his talents are devoted to being a digital media producer. Marlon feels fortunate to have worked with Hidden Beach Records, Starbucks Entertainment/Hear Music, UCLA, The Las Vegas Connection, Los Angles County Department of Children and Family Services, The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, and El Centro de Amistad, to name a few.

Triathlon Coach

Marlon has been a certified USAT (level 1), USAC (level 3) and USMS (level 3) coach. Coach Marlon volunteered his time as captain and coach for Children's Hospital Los Angeles triathlon team from 2013 to 2021. He has completed in several Olympic distance triathlons, 4 Ironman 70.3, competed in Ironman Coeur d'Alene 140.6, & completed 4 marathons (PR 3:44:03). Coach Marlon proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Search and Rescue Swimmer. He also is a black-belt in Shao-Lin Kung Fu, and teaches Tai Chi Chuan.

 

Coach Marlon works with athletes in every aspect of their fitness goals, specializes in personalized endurance training programs, offers private ocean swim instruction, as well as, running, cycling, private triathlon/multi-sport coaching, personal training, motivational coaching, Tai Chi Chuan/meditation.

Martial Artist

Marlon has been studying Kung Fu and Tai Chi Chuan for over 20 years. He has studied under Grand Master Sin Kwan Thé, Master Brian Devore (6th° Black Belt), Master Jason Carr (5th° Black Belt) and Master Hu Jianqiang (former all-around Chinese national wushu champion).

 

Marlon taught Tai Chi Chuan to faculty and staff at Children's Hospital Los Angeles from 2013 to 2020.

U.S. Navy Veteran

Marlon served in the U.S. Navy, during Gulf War I, as a Search and Rescue Swimmer and earned the designation of Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist onboard the USS Ogden LPD-5. He was awarded a "Joint Meritorious Unit Award" for his participation in the United Nations evacuation of Somalia (1995).
